We have found the Best. Bar. Ever.
Toledo Lounge in Adams Morgan:
Small it is, and narrow (some might say "cozy").
World's awesomest bartender (vaguely visible behind the bar here)--bears an uncannyish resemblance to Axl Rose.
Two-dollar beers. Look how happy this makes us!
Decor you just want to bring home with you, especially this enormous metal "Motor Freight Express" sign. There's also a boar's head with something in its mouth--we couldn't figure out what that something was. And a front page of the Toledo Blade from 1924 with a very sad feature story about a heroic WWI dog who was put down with chloroform as a result of his battlefield injuries.
And the World's Greatest Jukebox. Black Sabbath, the Cramps, Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash, Grandmaster Flash, David Bowie, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Guns'n'Roses, old R.E.M., Billie Holiday, Parliament, the Clash.... This is me doing hand motions (any other former Baptists remember the startling prevalence of "hand motions" to any & all songs?) to "Boys Don't Cry."
It's almost enough to make a girl want to move to D.C. just so she could make this her regular watering hole.
Today: back to Denver, spending the night in Boulder. Tomorrow: back to Junction, but we're going to try to find a Scion xB to test-drive first. The next day: Fisher's 7th birthday. Damn.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeah! That was a pretty awesome bar.
